Thank you! Sofie Bxl. Apr 14, Posts Female. Hi everyone, I need your advice! I’ve been with my bf for 5 years now and we have started talking about getting engaged sometime in Last Saturday we were in the Tiffany boutique in Brussels and I bought a necklace.
While we where there I thought why not have a look at the engagement rings and maybe try some on to see what fits me best. I’ve always had my heart set on a princess cut engagement ring but I had never tried it on.
I tried the classic Tiffany setting as well as the princess cut and it’s princess all the way for me! I was happy to have my thoughts confirmed The ring I tried on was absolutely gorgeous, it was so sparkly!

It was just under 1 carat the perfect size for what we are looking for. Over a carat looks to big on me and wouldn’t be comfortable to wear everyday I think.
I’ve been looking on the forum and I’ve seen a lot of different opinions on the quality of Tiffany diamonds. Saying that they are not really excellent quality, that they are not cut very well, On princess engagement ring I didn’t find a lot of info.
And what is considered an excellent quality princess cut diamond? Would you recommend other brands? Also I feel that in Belgium princess cut isn’t as popular as it is in other countries so you don’t really see it very much at local jewelers so that would also be a reason why I’m leaning towards Tiffanys.

I have a Tiffany Princess cut engagement ring and love it. It is under 1 carat, too. I know other people on tPF have mentioned some of Tiffany’s diamonds not being well cut and such, but all the diamonds I have from them sparkle so much.
I am very pleased with their diamond quality in my very limited experience.

I also have the Etoile wedding band. It has several small diamonds in it and they, too, sparkle like crazy. I also like Tiffany’s engagement ring settings because I feel that they are very high quality and really showcase the diamond.
The platinum prongs are high polished, thin, but very strong.

On some other engagement rings from other places, you could see the metal was rough cut, and the prongs were thick. I thought that took away from the diamond.
When my now DH and I were looking at engagement rings, I had also tried on a round brilliant cut diamond. It was nice and was slightly over 1 caratbut it was much more expensive than the princess cut and wasn’t as sparkly.

I think the diamond stats on my princess cut were better than the round cut. It’s hard to remember since it’s been over 6 years ago.
For the round cut, you were paying more for the carat than anything else. I personally would rather go for a more sparkly diamond even if it is smaller.
I think I had read somewhere that it’s less expensive to purchase a princess cut diamond versus a round brilliant cut because it is less labor intensive, i.
I hope that makes sense.
And last but not least, I love Tiffany’s customer service. I can go there anytime and they will inspect and clean my rings for free.

I thought the price we paid at Tiffany’s wasn’t too outrageous. At the time, I thought it was fairly priced when I compared it to other jewelers for the same type of ring of comparable quality.
I didn’t do an exhaustive search, so I’m sure there were better deals to be had. But I’m not a diamond expert and there is some comfort knowing that you can walk into Tiffany’s and pretty much get a good quality piece.
They basically do all the work for you.

If i remember correctly, Tiffany has complete control over their mine so all of their diamonds are sourced from the same mine which is why there seems to be a consistency in “pretty”.
And I don’t think any other jewelers get diamonds from the same mine that Tiffany does. Other mines produce diamonds just as pretty or prettier without the markup.
So with Tiffany you will get a pretty diamond but you will pay for a heavy markup. Nov 2, Posts. As JessicaRabbit1 said, their service is great and while not everyone here will agree, I certainly have never had a problem with their customer service.
